PSL 2021 Match 15:
Lahore Restart Their Campaign With a Win Against Islamabad
After a last-ball win over Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars moved to the top of the points table. As the game progressed, Lahore’s star all-rounder, Rashid Khan, shone with the ball in the first innings and then scored quickfire runs at the tail end of the chase.
Following the top order’s collapse, United couldn’t live up to the expectations. Mohammad Waseem Jr. and Faheem Ashraf put in an impressive batting performance. Their lower order contributed to the team’s score of 143/9 after 20 overs.
Although Lahore began poorly, Sohail Akhtar and Mohammad Hafeez put them on top of the run chase. Lahore’s batting lineup was broken up regularly by Islamabad’s bowlers. Tim David hit the winning runs after Rashid Khan smashed Hussain Talat for three consecutive fours in the last over.
Peshawar Zalmi will play Lahore in their sixth match of the tournament on Thursday at 11 p.m.
As the Pakistan Super League (PSL) resumes, Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars will play a slobber-knocker for the top spot. While both teams had a solid start to their seasons, winning three matches and losing one, with much-changed squads, both teams will be looking to hit the ground running.
Islamabad has lost Alex Hales, Lewis Gregory, and Paul Stirling, while Lahore will miss David Wiese and Samit Patel, two experienced campaigners.
Pakistan will be hoping that Kiwi opener Colin Munro can rediscover his old form and provide them with an explosive start on the powerplay, while the latest addition to their squad, Usman Khawaja, will play a significant role in the middle overs phase of the game.
The bowling lineup in Lahore, however, is led by the ace fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi. Rashid Khan will be heavily reliant on the team and will be looked upon to provide crucial wickets and quick runs at the end of the innings.
Head-to-Head
Islamabad and Lahore have met 10 times in PSL history, with Islamabad winning eight times and losing just two. Pakistan will hope to turn around its fortunes against the two-time champions.
Players to Lookout For
Lahore Qalandars:
Since he was named captain, Sohail Akhtar has been under intense pressure. As of late, his performances have been poor, but a change of venue could provide him with the boost he needs to perform well. At Abu Dhabi, Sohail has an excellent record. He has scored heavily on the ground and led Lahore to a title victory in the Abu Dhabi T10 league.
Islamabad United:
Usman Khawaja, an Australian middle-order batsman born in Islamabad, will make his PSL debut in the upcoming match. Islamabad will be hoping that Khawaja hits the ground running, while Khawaja will be determined to make a statement and regain his place on the national team.
In a match where the wickets are heavily dependent on a spin, Khawaja will be key in tackling the spinners in the middle overs and setting up the finish, allowing the batters to score big.

In a first, Lahore Qalandars qualify for PSL 2020 semi-finals
Lahore Qalandars, for the first time ever, made it out of the round-robin stage of the Pakistan Super League, thanks to their win over leaders Multan Sultan at Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday.
The league leaders were two down for just four runs in the second over, having lost Moeen Ali and Zeeshan Ashraf both. Shan Masood (42) and Ravi Bopara (33) stabilized the ship some but a decent score was still some way away.
Lahore’s qualification means that defending champions Quetta Gladiators’ slim hopes of sneaking into the semi-finals were dashed. The Sarfaraz Ahmed-led side has to take on his hometown side Karachi Kings later today but Lahore’s qualification means that that fixture has been rendered a dead rubber.

Lahore won the toss and elected to bowl first,
Islamabad United given 199 target to Lahore
On Wednesday, Lahore Qalandars proved that their astonishing win over Quetta Gladiators the previous night was a fluke, and they hadn’t turned a corner as they succumbed to the most massive defeat (71 runs) of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 at the hands of Islamabad United.
The Qalandars, without the injured star Shaheen Shah Afridi but with the woefully out-of-rhythm Usman Shinwari, won the toss, but that was just the thing they won the rest of the night.
Islamabad openers Luke Ronchi (48) and Colin Munro (unbeaten 87 off 59) maltreated Lahore bowlers, giving their side a 103-run opening stand — a stand that was later embellished by Colin Ingram and Asif Ali.
Adding more insult to injury was when Lahore lost the increasingly impressive Dilbar Hussain to a knock in the 16th over.
Set a 199-run target, the Qalandars lost Chris Lynn in the first over, and everything went awry from there. The previous night’s hero Ben Dunk scored a 15-ball 25, but when he departed in the 9th over with the score 57-3, it was all over. A comedy of dismissals followed as Lahore returned to losing ways.
16th
Lahore Qalandar vs Quetta Gladiators today match Highlights-dated-3rd March 2020
Lahore Qalandars won by 37 runs
The Lahore Qalandars registered their first great victory of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 by beating the Quetta Gladiators by 37 runs on Tuesday, today.
11th over, something changed. It’s hard to say if it was the prayers of the Qalandars faithful, black magic, sheer coincidence, or something else, but something changed dramatically in that 11th over.
Dunk and Patel became the cricket’s version of Batman and Robin.
Over the next 9.4 overs or 58 balls, it rained boundaries at an unprecedented rate. Dunk went wholly berserk, and Patel went almost as insane.
The pair got together when the score was 50-3. By the time they were done, the scoreboard had read 205-4. What happened in between was a blur. Let’s rely on some numbers extracted from the scorecard. Dunk hit a PSL record ten sixes for a 43-ball 93. His sidekick scored 71 off 40.
Together, they shared a 155-run partnership that was just two shies of the biggest ever PSL partnership. Their stupendous knocks meant that Lahore posted the highest score of PSL 2020 so far.
Let’s not dilute their feats by talking about how Quetta batted or how Qalandars bowled. Just know what Lahore Qalandars won, got their first two points of the tournament, and pretty much saved their season. For now, that is.

The Multan Sultan 1st inn: 199
Quetta Gladiators: 169
Multan Sultan won by 30 runs
Match Report after match
Multan’s batsmen provided them with yet another excellent start today as James Vince smacked a few incredible boundaries to score 29 off just 24 balls. RR Rossouw made 100 from 44. Captain Shan Masood looked in great touch once again as he scored 46 off 32 balls with six fours to his credit. The innings of the match were, however, played by Rilee Rossouw, who helped Multan post a massive 199 on the board in the end. He scored an unbeaten 100 from just 44 balls and set the tone for Multan Sultans.
Mohammad Nawaz, Naseem Shah, Sohail Khan, Mohammad Hasnain, and Ben Cutting picked one wicket each for Quetta.
When Quetta came out to chase, Jason Roy and Shane Watson looked in sublime touch as they started striking big right from the word go. Roy scored 30 off 27 balls while Watson went on to score 80 from 41 balls. Unfortunately for Quetta, no other batsman could get into their 20s, and Quetta lost the clue mid-way through.
Bilawal Bhatti rocked with the ball for Multan Sultans in his first game of the tournament. He picked three wickets from 26 balls. Imran Tahir picked 2 for 27, and Khushdil Shah also picked one wicket.
Toss Multan Sultans chose to bat v Quetta Gladiators
Multan Sultans won the toss, and for the 1st time in the PSL this 5th season, a side selected to bat first. Sultan were watching for a 4th win of the season in what will be the last match against a Quetta Gladiators outfit who, like them, had 3 wins in four games. Multan captain Shan Masood said his side had opted to bat for because he believed the spinners would come into the game later and help restrict the opposition. They preduced 2 changes to the side, with Shahid Afridi replaced by Bilawal Bhatti, during James Vince returned at Ravi Bopara’s expense.
Quetta Gladiators came into the match playing just 3 overseas players, with Anwar Ali replacing Tymal Mills. Ahmed Shehzad sat out, too, with Ahsan Ali taking his place at the top leading of the order. Victory for either side would see them pull away with a 2-point lead at the top.
Quetta Gladiators: Jason Roy, Shane Watson, Ahsan Ali, Azam Khan, Sarfaraz Ahmed (capt&wk), Ben Cutting, Mohammad Nawaz, Anwar Ali, Sohail Khan, Mohammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah
Multan Sultans: Shan Masood (capt), James Vince, Rilee Rossouw, Khushdil Shah, Zeeshan Ashraf (wk), Moeen Ali, Sohail Tanvir, Bilawal Bhatti, Mohammad Ilyas, Imran Tahir, Mohammad Irfan

Lahore Qalandars’ bid to take off the mark in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 once repeatedly came up short as they were beaten by 16 runs by Peshawar Zalmi at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on the day of Friday.
Set a 133-run target in the rain-shortened 12-overs-per-side match, the Qalandars took a suitable start from their star opener Chris Lynn (30 off 15), but once he was finished, the wheels came off the run chase.
The hapless Lahore Qalandars ended up dropping their third straight match of the season and are now beginning at the possibility of another year rooted to the foot of the table.
Earlier, Zalmi finished with 132-7 courtesy Haider Ali and Tom Banton’s identical 34-run innings each.

Players to Lookout For
Multan Sultans:
Rilee Rossouw has had poor season until now. However, he is a match-winner with the ability to turn the game on its head.
Peshawar Zalmi:
In the two matches so far, Tom Banton hasn’t had the impact Zalmi fans would have been hoping for; however, he is a class act, and it is a matter of time before he gets going.
Here’s the updated PSL 2020 points table. You can find the complete PSL 2020 schedule here.
1st Innings
Having won the toss, Multan bowlers were brilliant right from the word go as Mohammad Irfan produced a chance on his very first ball, which went down in the first slip.
All five bowlers were among the wickets, and veteran left-arm pacer, Sohail Tanvir, was the pick of the lot, picking four wickets for just 13 runs.
Haider Ali was the only batsman who looked like making an impact in the game, scoring 47 from 27 balls, including six fours and two sixes.
Zalmi were bowled out for a meager 123, setting a target of 124 for the home side.
2nd Innings
A small target was always going to be an easy one for Multan Sultans. However, Peshawar bowlers were not going to let the match go that easily.
Rilee Rossow and Khushdil Shah were calm with the bat, handling the situation despite 4 early wickets. In the end, 124 proved a little too few for the bowling unit to defend as the hosts got over the line with 6 wickets in hand. Rossow ended with 49* whereas Khushdil made 43*.
