PSL Wild Card and Right to Match Card
A new right-to-match card has been introduced for the first time in the PSL, allowing franchisees to buy back a maximum of one player. Franchises have released their draft by paying the respective fee for each category.
- Platinum (PKR 2.8 million),
- Diamond (PKR 1.75 million),
- Gold (PKR 1.4 million),
- Silver (PKR 0.8 million),
- Emerging (PKR 0.45 million).
- The supplementary round allows each team to pick two additional players.

December 11, 2022 Sunday as Dates for the Draft Schedule
2023 Pakistan Super League (PSL) Eight season players’ draft is to take place in Lahore, Pakistan on Sunday 11, December 2022.
A source inside the Pakistan Cricket Board said the PCB is eyeing December 12, Sunday as dates for the draft, with a venue at Lahore.
Due to the tour of the West Indies in Pakistan, the board rejected the proposal to hold the draft in Karachi initially.
The venue for the draft has now been proposed as the National High-Performance Centre due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak.
The upcoming league season is also expected to see many players switch teams.
Karachi Kings are likely to be led by Babar Azam, Pakistan’s captain for all formats, while other franchises may see new leaders emerge as well.
The seventh edition of the cash-rich league will begin in January next year, with the first leg to be played in Karachi and the second leg to be played in Lahore.

Teams were not allowed to trade players after December 9. Below are the developments:
- Multan Sultans have moved Shahid Afridi to Quetta Gladiators, where he is playing his last PSL match.
- The Multan Sultans have moved James Vince from the Quetta Gladiators to Multan Sultans.
- Quetta Gladiators have also signed Iftikhar Ahmed from Islamabad United.
- Islamabad United Player Iftikhar is moved to Quetta in exchange for Azam Khan (Wicket-Keeper) from Gladiators. Azam Khan joined now Islamabad United.
Due to Multan Sultans’ trade with Gladiators, Multan Sultans will receive Quetta’s Diamond and Silver round picks.

When PSL will Start?
The first pick in the draft will go to Sohail Akhtar and the Lahore Qalandars. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that the T20 tournament will take place in late January instead of its traditional slot in February or March.
The start date of the championship has not yet been announced. It has been confirmed that the PSL will begin either January 26 or January 27. Furthermore, it was learned that the PSL franchise owners wanted the tournament to take place in January since the Emirates Premier League (EPL) is also scheduled to take place in January and February.
Players can compete in the EPL after the PSL ends. According to sources, an auction model was considered for the seventh edition of the PSL, but the draft process remains for the time being.

Pakistan PSL Draft New System-Auction 2023
Ramiz Raja is likely to introduce ‘IPL style auctions for the PSL new season, instead of the draft system. The PSL, which is now six years old has adopted a recruitment policy. Here is the auction date and time and auction detail update 2023.
Ramiz Raja wants franchisees to have the option of picking players for longer-term contracts with higher pay like in the IPL, while the franchises are in favor of the idea, he said during a meeting this weekend. Ramiz reportedly proposed innovative and ambitious ideas to franchises during general discussions. However, the league’s financial model remains the biggest obstacle.
In the IPL, the original eight franchises paid fees for ten years, after which they did not pay an annual fee. In the Caribbean Premier League, franchise rights are granted for 25 years. PSL franchises, however, have a 10-year contract. Every year, they pay for broadcast production, while the PCB covers the ground and matches the official’s costs.
The list was reviewed by Director GM Commercial Imran Ahmed Khan and High-Performance Nadeem Khan. Both are PSL’s major player acquisitions for PSL since 2017.

Qalandars pacer Haris Rauf’s meteoric rise continues as the fast bowler moves up from PSL category Gold to Diamond. He was not the major wicket-taker in the year 2021 with 57 scalps at 9.67.
PSL player Fakhar Zaman, who ended up as the highest scorer as a team in the PSL 2021 with 287 runs in 10 matches for Lahore Qalandars. Muhammad Hafeez made 271 from 10 innings. TH David 180 from 6 innings, B Dunk 163 from 10 inns. Captain Sohail Akther made 149 from 10 innings.
Quetta Gladiators:
Team Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfaraz Ahmed is in the PSL Platinum category, he made 321 from 10 innings and Azam Khan made 174 from 10 innings.
Fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain moves up from the PSL Gold category to Diamond after ending as Quetta’s leading wicket-taker in the PSL 2021 with 9 wickets.
Multan Sultans:
Team Multan Sultans captain Muhammad Rizwan has moved up to the PSL Diamond category with his great performances across PSL 2021 and the National T20 Cup. M Rizwan made 500 run from 12 innings.
Sohaib Maqsood made 428 runs from 12 matches and Shan Masood 209 from 7 innings. RR Rossouw 177 from 12 inns.
Shan’s Masood teammates Sohail Tanvir and boom boom Shahid Afridi have been placed in the PSL Platinum category.
Shahnawaz Dahani is the most wicket-taker in PSL 2021. He got 20 wickets from 11 innings with 17 avg. Imran Tahir got 13 wickets from 7 inns with a 13.07 avg.
Peshawar Zalmi:
Shoaib Malik made 354 from 13 innings, Kamran Akmal 283 from 13, SE Rutherford 276 from 13 innings.
In the bowling section, Wahab Riaz got 18 wickets from 12 innings with 23.44 Avg.

Islamabad United:
Hassan Ali is most leading wicket-taker from IU. He got 13 wickets from 10 with a 20.69 avg. M. Wasim got 12 wickets.

Karachi Kings:
KK Captain Babar Azam was the most leading scorer of PSL 2021. Sharjeel Khan made 338 runs from 11 innings. Muhammad Nabi made 174 from 5 innings. Over KK’s performance in PSL 2021 was not up to the mark.
As per Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) press release, a random draw conscious decided the pick order for the first round. “The final PSL pick order for round one of the HBL PSL 2021 Player Draft was decided after a random draw in the presence of representatives of all six franchises at the PCB headquarters in Lahore. The next seventeen rounds were decided by a special statistical tool system,” it said.

The franchises are still yet to break even after their investment in four out of the six founding franchises. Between USD 1.1 million and USD, 6.35 million (PKR 18.6 crore to PKR 107 crore) are the franchise fees. Every season, the board earns USD 15.65 million (PKR 264 crore). The board takes 15% of the network revenue stream.
The Pakistan Cricket Board on Tuesday declared that the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2032 will bring a total cash prize of $6.35 million.
According to a PCB press release, winners of the PSL 2023 final will get a cheque of $500,000 along with the trophy, the runner-ups will be awarded $200,000.
$4,500 each will be awarded to the 34 men of the matches. The amount of $80,000 will divide equally among the player of the tournament. The best batsman, Spirit of Cricket award winner, and best bowler.
The remaining amount will give to the winners of other awards such as best catch, best run-out, and most sixes.
The PSL 2023 is set to begin on Thursday at Karachi’s Gaddafi Stadium.
